The 2nd Trenchless Balkans Conference and Exhibition, held last month, attracted speakers and attendees from throughout Europe.
Held in conjunction with the Water Loss Forum Balkans, Trenchless Balkans was hosted at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS) with the support of the Turkish Society for Infrastructure and Trenchless Technology (TSITT), Romanian Society for Trenchless Technology and other international organisations.
The event’s welcome address was presented by IUS President Dr Hasan Zuhuri Sarikaya, followed by opening addresses by TSITT Chair Yasin Torun, Sarajevo Water Utility General Manager Azra Muzur, Konya Water Utility General Manager Ercan Uslu, Ankara Water Utility General Manager Dr Cumali Kinaci, Ilidza Municipality Mayor Dr Senaid Memic and Turkey to Bosnia Ambassador Haldun Koc.
After the exhibition opened, there were a number of presentations about a range of trenchless methods and technologies, including presentations from Jackcontrol’s Aleksandar Jovanovic and Hydra d.o.o. Sarajevo’s Amer Jusufbegovic and Benjamin Hadzic.
Other presentations on the first day addressed pressure management solutions for water loss, new material for watertight pipe infrastructure, relining water mains with a reinforced composite lining system, and rehabilitation of pressure and gravity pipes with complete hose solutions,
On day two, Boretech Engineering’s Onur Kaya explored horizontal directional drilling (HDD) case studies from Kazakhstan, Iraq and Turkey, while Techvadi’s Tolga Senturk presented the solvent-free lining of water pipelines.
Presentations that followed addressed the application of advanced technologies in the construction and rehabilitation of water supply and sewage lines and water loss control studies in Ankara, Turkey.
To end the conference a special panel session moderated by Dr Sarikaya focused on what the future will bring for the water industry.
Over the course of the event more than 100 participants from nine countries developed their business networks in the southeastern European trenchless market, with exhibitors introducing the latest trenchless products to the Balkan officials.
IUS has announced the next Trenchless Balkans will take place on 17–18 October 2019.
